|
George Ruslin Preston with his family in around 1902 : his wife Alice Ann (nee Welburn) died only a couple of years after this photo was taken, of consumption (pulmonary tuberculosis, which at the time was incurable) and their eldest son, George Welburn Preston (centre) was killed in action in France in 1917, during the first World War. The other three children went on to live to a good age - Norman and Myrtle (my grandmother) both died in 1972, Norman aged 78 and Mytrle aged 76, and Maude outlived them all to die at a grand 90 years, in 1987. George Ruslin snr. remarried and went to live in Ampleforth (Yorkshire) and lost touch with his family; he died there in 1946. |
