And yes, though they were a good Christian family, they like all other families at times fell to pieces.  James remained in Barren Co.  It is not known why he chose to stay here, but there are church documents from Mount Tabor Baptist Church where his wife Hettie Katherine Dennison was thrown out of the church for some while.  It seems that Hettie liked to dance, and was caught by some of the church elders.  She was given a chance to make ammends by comming before the board and appologizing, but instead she sent word.  The men seeing this as an insult, removed her from the roll for "failing to give satisfaction."  But this would not be the worst trials they would have as a family.  Those came with 2 of their sons, Alonzo "Lon" and  James "Jenks" Pursley.  A trial that proved so difficult, their other 2 sons Lucian and Bruce, moved to Booneville Indiana to be near their grandparents, and away from their immediate family.  What Happened to Lon and Jenks? Well.....
