I must say, lunch at Courthouse Market Grille and then dinner at this place made it clear to me that Liberty Group knows exactly what they're doing. I was so impressed with the food at both places. The service at Left Bank was great too (although less than stellar at Courthouse). Left Bank has an elegant gothic decor, which makes it both romantic and classy without seeming stuffy and pretentious. According to it's webpage, it's only open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, but when I called for a Tuesday evening dinner reservation, they said they were open. I don't know if it was just for Summerlicious or if it's an error on their website, but whatever. I was able to make Tuesday dinner reservations so all was good. My friends and I were warmly greeted and led to our table. There was a little confusion between our host and our server as they both brought us bread (no such thing as too much bread). It was cute. The options for appetizers were Duck Confit Oyster Mushrooms, Arugula, Eggplant Caviar, Rhubarb Glaze or Velour of Wild Mushroom Garlic Confit, Brie and Truffle Beignets. I had the duck which turned out to be spring rolls. They failed to mention this, so when it arrived I was somewhat surprised. But that's okay. These had to be the best spring rolls I've ever had. The entire dish was a smidge on the salty side, but the flavours were awe-inspiring. The spring rolls were crispy and light as opposed to greasy and heavy. I wish I could better describe this amazing dish, but I can't because I procrastinated for a month before writing this. Sorry folks. But you'll just have to go on faith for this one as I haven't got the literary repretoire to describe this dish. Trust me, it was AMAZING! The Velour of Wild Mushroom Garlic Confit, Brie and Truffle Beignets, which one of my dinner companions ordered, was simply a French style blended soup. I didn't try it, but it looked good and she said it tasted great. I'll take her word for it. Main course choices were Grilled Atlantic Salmon Clams, Pancetta, Roasted Tomato, Mustard Cress, Pernod Saffron Broth or Herb Roast Chicken Supreme Goat Cheese and Chive Mash, Asparagus and Shitake Saute, Pommery Mustard Jus. I ordered the chicken and was definitely not disappointed. Woah momma! Only probably with this chicken was the salt. I think the person in charge of salting in the kitchen was over-doing it. Anyways, the chicken was juicy and tender, and the wing-bone made it look all the more elegant. Presentation of this dish was very impressive, and everything taste amazing. I definitely had a tastebud overload at this dinner. Imperative to every meal, is dessert. Warm Peppered Strawberry Tart. Who the heck puts fresh ground pepper on their dessert? I know it sounds crazy. And my dinner companions thought it *was* crazy. But in all honesty, I actually kinda liked it. It was different and it added a little zing to the dish. The Honey Marscapone, French Vanilla Ice Cream, and 25 Year Aged Balsamic Vinegar really added to the uniqueness of this dish. And it's the good kind of uniquness. The ice cream had that rich vanilla flavour and the marscapone was as smooth as silk. It was funny to see how the balsamic vinegar made my friend all giddy and happy. It was almost like she was drunk. All in all, it was a very satisfying experience and splendid meal. Final rating is:
