Q and A (cuz nobody has FA'ed a Q yet)

Q: Who can submit a tile?

A: Anyone, this is not an exclusive club, no membership required, just send them in, and we will spread them around.

Q: What programs can I use?

A: anything you have available. If you don't have anything or want something better. check out these links for freeware and shareware.

Gimp
Ultimate Paint
Icon Forge plus other icon editors at tucows
Other Graphic editors at Nonags

Q: What is a tile?

A: Tiles in the program are bit map files that are 20 pixels by 20 pixels or some multiple of 20. Most people keep their tiles either 20x20 or 40x40. You can create uneven tiles like 20x60. Tiles that do not have sides that are a multiple of 20 cause gaps or shadowing or overrun adjacent tiles.

Q: What happens to the tiles I submit?

A: First they will be posted for all to see on this site, and zipped up for download. When the time period elapses all of the tiles submitted will be sent to DC for distribution from their Customs page. This process is not automated and is subject to my ability to work on the site, I will try not to go too long without updating the site but, you may need to be patient.

The Rules:

  1. Stick to the Theme. Pictures that do not comply with the specifications of the challenge will be discarded (or I'll just keep them for myself)
  2. Stick to the time limit. We are giving a 10 day window. starting on a Friday and going through 2 full weekends and ending on the following Monday. (subject to change if we don't get enough tiles, or get too lazy to change the challenge)
  3. Keep your files in BMP format. I know jpg is smaller but to keep from loosing quality I would prefer BMP. If you insist on jpg, or have no other options, save it as the highest quality jpg available.
  4. Keep your file names simple and descriptive. I don't want to sort through 20 files named test.bmp.
  5. Do not use spaces in the names, use dashes - or underscores _ and avoid capitolizing all or part of the name.
  6. If you choose to make numerous tiles and send them to me all at once. I would strongly encourage you to strictly abide by all of these rules (and include a jpg file for each tile) The less time I have to spend converting files and cleaning up names the more tiles I can work on and the better the site will look.
  7. Don't sign your tiles. This isn't about name recognition or building a reputation, this is for fun. if you want your ego stroked you can submit the tiles to DC for yourself.
