MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE GLBT ARTS CONSORTIUM 7/11/02

COMMUNITY CENTER

The two issues related to the community center were discussed- facility accommodation (space) and the consortium's decision to whether to participate in a benefit concert fot the community center. Members decided to gather more information on both issues before the group commits resources to the project(s). As our representative to the committee, Carlos was asked to  determine if the community center could me our needs and if so, what types or space may be available to consortium members.  Carlos was also asked (in absentia) to report back to the consortium in order to discuss the overall mission of the community center.

PRIDE POST MORTEM

Members generally agreed that the Pride Arts Corner was a success for the consortium.  The groups were very well received and "Outskirts" and the barbershop quartet were specifically mentioned.   The following suggestions were made:  1)  encourage more authors to host their booths in the arts corner; 2)  find a way to determine how
missing, non-suitable, or misplaced items (e.g. tents, stage, stage location) could be corrected at future events; 3)  how to improve the sound systems and set up logistics which are at the discretion of the consortium.  Members suggested that representatives meet with Robert York in the near future in order to discuss these concerns.

IOLANTHE

Plans for the Iolanthe production were reported to be in full swing. As of the meeting date, a tenor for the chorus was still needed. Jill reported that the Burgundy Crescent will be volunteering for ushering.  Jill also suggested selling water, sodas and baked goods before the productions and during intermission in order to raise money and solcit donations.  Pamela J. and Pamela H. volunteered to coordinate this effort.  It was also suggested that the programs could include inserts with consortium event information for the upcoming season.  Members are asked the send their concert
information to Carol Wheeler as soon as possible.  Carol and Charles Butler will coordinate the effort to gather information for the fliers and consortium calendars.

REPORTS FROM JUST-A-GROUPS

Diversity Group- Had not met yet and Charles Butler agreed to call a meeting.

Collabortion Group- TC from LGCW and Carol Wheeler held a meeting and plan to distribute a survey to other area arts groups and other appropriate agencies from whom collaboration would be mutually beneficial.

Visibility-  Pam H reported that their group was going to follow up with two of its goals.  Scott Barker was asked  (in absentia) to ask for volunteers to meet with the arts editors of "The Blade" and "MW". The visibility group wanted to meet with the editors before the fall arts previews were written.  As a part of the group's effort to pool media information, Pam H asked Pamela J. to email her list of media contacts from the Cultural Alliance so that each member would have this information.  This information will be available through the web site but can only be access by those members with a password.
