Meeting: 8 March 2003
In Attendance: Carlos Arias, David Bielenberg, Pam Helton, Pamela Jafari, Jill Strachan (who took notes), and Carol Wheeler
Martin Luther King, Jr. Remembrance: The event was very successful and we agreed to sponsor again next year. The Consortium is very appreciative of Capital Pride's financial support of the event. It was great to have TAG's participation in addition to the performing groups.
Youth Pride Day: is April 12th. One in Ten/Reel Affirmations and the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington will have booths and both groups agreed to put out materials for the Consortium itself and for individual organizations as well. In addition, the Consortium agreed to take out an ad in the program (as in previous years). Jill agreed to arrange.
Capital Pride Day: is June 8th. Jill agreed to write to Robert York on behalf of the Consortium to suggest the following: making the Arts Corner & Stage an anchor to the Main Stage (at opposite ends), designating the Arts Corner & Stage on maps of the event as well as through signage/balloons on the actual day, grouping together the arts organizations and vendors with an interest in the arts and creating a check-off box on the actual forms for Pride that promote this opportunity. Carol volunteered to take on the responsibility of organizing the stage and Jill promised to show her what she had done in previous years.
Pamela Jafari offered to organize some brainstorming around a possible panel discussion during Pride Week that would focus on the role of the glbt arts in our community. Several folks said they would be interested in participating and we all agreed that for the event to succeed (we had modest expectations for the first offering) that we would need to seek panelists outside our immediate numbers.
Summer Production: is THE MIKADO. Auditions are: Monday, April 7th, 7 PM, and Saturday, April 12th, 11AM-1PM at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW), corner of 7th and G Streets SE, near to Eastern Market Metro. The show will run at CHAW on July 31-August 2nd and August 7-9. As in the previous two summers, the show is cosponsored by CHAW and the GLBT Arts Consortium.
Fall Event: We fell into a discussion of creating a fall (festival/production/?) event that would focus on the glbt arts. Carlos was going to investigate an idea related to the basketball court on P St. near Cafe Luna. Jill said she would explore hooking into the 2nd Saturday event that is sponsored each month by the Capitol Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals (CHAMPS).
Other Business: Pamela Jafari agreed to be the Consortium Facilitator beginning with the next meeting. Thank you, Pamela. And, thanks Charles Butler for your tenure in this role. Does anyone have an electronic version of the GLBT Arts Consortium brochure? Please let us know.
Next Meeting: We'll meet on Saturday, April 5th, 10-Noon. We will confirm the location.
