According to his biography he enlisted May 1861 in Captain White's company of the Battalion. He fought at 1st Manassas, the Valley, and the Seven Days battles. After the Battalion's disbandment he joined the 7th Louisiana Infantry Regiment and fought with them at the battles of 2nd Manassas, Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg, and Fredericksburg (where he was severely wounded). He spent the next six months in hospital (missing Chancellorsville and Gettysburg). He fought in the battles of the Wilderness and Cold Harbor. Was at Petersburg near the explosion of the mine and battle of the Crater and surrendered at Appomattox. From Virginia he first went to New Orleans thence Memphis and St. Louis and finally Liberty, MO. He was the sometimes foreman on the Hannibal and St.Joseph Railroad, and for the pnext 28 years a businessman and worthy citizen, highly regarded by both Confederate comrades and the general community. Married Mary Haley, the daughter of Patrick Haley. Although his name does not appear on a list of wounded Louisianans in Richmond (dated January 7, 1863) a Private J. Morgan of Company C, 6th Louisiana Infantry Regiment does.
