Gladys Mitchell - The Author's Life
Little has been published about the life of Gladys Mitchell.  From various sources, one can piece together the details of this woman's extraordinary life.  She was born Gladys Maude Winifred Mitchell on April 19, 1901. 

  Miss Mitchell read for a degree in European history at University College, London in 1926, as she planned to become a teacher.  She did pursue teaching for the next forty years of her life, before retiring to devote herself full-time to writing.  She taught various subjects including English, history, Spanish, and athletics at girls schools.  In addition to teaching, she was involved in working with student plays.

  After her retirement as school teacher and games-mistress in the tiny village of Dorset, Miss Mitchell produced a book a year.
