"Kermit" is the only bike I ever bought brand new. I got it in early 1995, have
ridden over 100T km since, and I if I had to decide for a bike now, it would certainly be a F650
again! It handles great, sits comfortable all day long, goes fast enough for touring, is quite quick,
and - yeaaaahhhhh!!! - just what you want on a small windy road! I don't think it's very
pretty (to top it off I chose the ugliest color available, hence the name), but - hey - I ride on it, the others have to look at it! ;-)
There hadn't been any repairs except for new seat and tank locks, a broken mirror clamp
and a footpeck mount, a new seat cover, and only minimal maintenance expenses (oil change
every 10T km, inspection every 20T km, a second battery, a spedometer cable, and of course
tyres). At the second or third inspection i had Stahlflex brake line put in, which
improved the pretty good braking even better. I also have a home made luggage rack that
fits my old plastic Krauser top case and keeps
the soft bags from getting burned by the exhaust. At the beginning I had a shorter
rear shock mounted, but after getting so familiar with the bike I decided I can handle the
tip-toeing and went back to the original shock. I have a self-made roadbook device,
which comes in handy together with an
extry tachometer (Sigma bicycle tacho) for following a prepared route. I am thinking about
modifying the bike closer towards a super moto style: smaller wheels with sm tyres and
even better front brakes. (Late braking gives you 10 hp!) It would be great if I can keep
the original wheels with nobby tyres (e.g. TKC80) as well.
