Sugar Interview October 2003

Think you know everything there is to know about Blue? Think again! The boys are back, even buffer and ready to reveal more than ever before...

Guys, this is the sexy issue, so what makes a girl sexy?

Simon: Her shoes! It's the first thing I see 'cause most of the time I walk around with my head down, so I notice a nice pair of ankles!

Ant: Ohmigod! I love ankles too!

Lee: I'm not fussed about looks 'cause I don't think sexiness is always about appearance. I think there has to be a click between two people - that's the most important thing.

Simon: That, and nice eyes and a lovely smile.

Duncan: I like conservative girls, and girl-next-door types are really sexy. I don't like tarts, or girls who wear mini skirts and have their boobs hanging out too. They're alright for a bit of fun, but I couldn't go out with anyone like that.

Does that mean you'd rule out glamour girls like Jodie Marsh?

Duncan: I wouldn't go out with Jodie Marsh if you paid me!

Simon: I'm not interested, they aren't the types of girls I go for.

Ant: Nah, I wouldn't want to go out with a Page Three dolly.

Lee: I would! I think it's snobby to judge a model or lapdancer - it's no different than anyone else baring half their body! And at least they're up for a laugh.

Have you always fancied the same type of girls, or have your tastes changed as you've got older?

Lee: My taste changes every weekend! I've been going through a brunette phase recently!

Ant: I think it changed all the time when I was single - I guess it depended on the person! But it's stayed the same over the past couple of years, of course!

Simon: I like a girl who has high self-esteem - someone who's not afraid to say she's good looking or a good person.

Duncan: I've always loved girls with a Mediterranean look, Italian or Spanish - but then I've still got a big thing for Britney!

Do you like girls who make the first move?

Ant: Yes! It's the 21st Century, there's nothing wrong with that. Girls who say "I don't mind" all the time do my head in!

Simon: I love being approached! There's nothing quite like that feeling of being taken aback and not being able to say no!

Duncan: People think I'm confident, but I'm actually very shy around girls. I'm really scared of rejection so I tend to just sit back. Lee doesn't care, he goes straight up there and is like, "Alright darlin', I well fancy ya" - but I'm not like that at all.

Lee: Dunc's right - I do like to make the first move, but I don't mind girls offering themselves on a plate either!

How d'you like to be chatted up?

Ant: I've never wanted to be chatted up, I've only ever wanted a girl to make me laugh.

Simon: I've got a thing about keeping up eye contact during a conversation. I love girls who have such beautiful eyes that I don't wanna stop looking at them!

Lee: Show me you're up for a laugh! I love funny girls with a bubbly personality.

Duncan: I'll tell, you how I like to be chatted up. When we leave a gig, we may get fans slipping pieces of paper with their mobile number on into the car - but not once, have I ever called a girl who's given me her number that way. Contrary to what the papers say!

What's the strangest place you've snogged a girl?

Ant: Underneath a slide in a park whilst it was pouring down with rain. Romantic, huh?

Simon: On a rollercoaster called The Black Hole. We were kissing all the way up, and I was like, whatever happens, even when we drop, we can't stop! It was so great!

Duncan: My strangest place was in a toilet cubicle on a train!

Lee: Mine was in a toilet too! And another time I was in a hotel toilet and a waiter walked in and caught me with my pants down... then he came back for a better look! Duncan: I totally fancy Britney, she's my number one! She's got a lot of sex appeal.

Simon: I love Angelina Jolie. Black hair and green eyes are my weakness!

Can a relationship between two celebs work?

Ant: Yes. You always hear about those that don't work, but just look at Harvey and Alesha, they're really good together.

Lee: I think it's more difficult, definitely. My life means I find it hard to concentrate on a girl fully. I have to concentrate on myself and my work, so I haven't got time for domestics! And I'm a bit all over the place too - one day I may wake up and think she's great and the next day I won't think so.

Simon: I think it can work in the beginning, but then the work and the travel pile on and you've got busy schedules to deal with too. It's difficult.

Duncan: Yeah, it's hard. I went out with Marie from A*Teens for a while but the pressure of us being in different countries was too much. Luckily, we're still friends.

And are there any celeb laydeez who fancy you?

Ant: No one fancies me! Have you heard of anyone? In an interview the other day they asked the Cheeky Girls who they fancied from pop, and they said Simon, Duncan and Lee from Blue. Where was I?

They probably didn't want to offend your financee! But are the rest of you getting ready to setlle down?

Simon: I'm getting a bit lonely, but I think a relationship is about two people and I need a girlfriend who can handle my work commitments - and that's a lot to ask.

Duncan: I've just started seeing my ex-girlfriend Anya again. It's early days, but it's really nice to come home at the end of the day and have someone to cuddle. It's not about sex, it's about having great company.

Lee: I'm not ready yet, I need to focus on myself. I haven't had time to myself for ages, 'cause I split from my long-term girlfriend Carly, and went straight out with Liz (Atomic Kitten), so I haven't had a chance to sort myself out properly. I got engaged to Liz and then realised I was doing the wrong thing. What with all the press attention and everything, there was too much s**t to deal with. And now the press seem to think I'm with a different girl every week. Like when I was stopped for dangerous driving the other week, they said I was on my way from one girl's house to another. That was complete rubbish!

Really? So what was the truth behind that story?

Lee: I'd been out with my cousin Billy. He'd had too much to drink and was sick everywhere, and he got chucked out of the club we were in, so I took him home. Then I decided to drive myself home. I know now I shouldn't have done it - I wasn't really drunk but I had been drinking, and unfortunately it turned out I was over the limit. But that stuff about me going from one girl's place to another is totally fabricated.

You all get a lot of press interest. How worried are you about kiss 'n' tells?

Ant: That's why I settled down so quickly! I knew Lucy understood me from the word go - and I didn't want someone who was going to start making things difficult for me.

Simon: I can't risk any of that stuff 'cause I've got a daughter, Alana, who's six, to think about. I try to stay out of the limelight, and I'm working hard so I can spend as much time with her as I can.

Duncan: I get more paranoid about dates now. One minute I'm having an innocent lunch, ad then I leave to find paparazzi everywhere. I look at the waiters and wonder which one of them might take a bribe. It's tough.

And d'you like to splash cash on girls?

Simon: Yeah, I don't think a guy can go shipping without shopping for a girl first! Even now I go to the women's section first, even though I haven't got a girlfriend. I look at the shoes and the bags that match and think about my ex-girlfriend.

Lee: I rented a boat once and bought a hamper to take out on it. It was really nice. We had dinner on the boat and lit fireworks. I'm quite romantic actually!

Ant: The most romantic gift I've ever bought a girl was Lucy's engagement ring. But I think the best date we've ever been on was to Pizza Express in Watford - seriously, it was lovely!

Duncan: It's not about the amount of money though, it's the thought that goes into it. I didn't know what to buy for Tara's (Palmer-Tomkinson, who Dunc has set up a TV production company with) birthday 'cause she's got a lot of money, but I realised it was better to buy something meaningful than spend thousands of pounds.

What was the last thing you thought about when you closed your eyes last night?

Lee: I'm in the middle of writing a film script which is kinda based on stuff from when I was younger. It's about a bunch of teenagers and I started writing it when I was at school. It's funny in places, and dark in others. I seem to think about it most evenings before I go to sleep.

Ant: I thought about the missus. She's away for the week and I'm really missing her. I feel kinda useless without her.

Duncan: Well, one of us has gotta think about sex and it looks like it's me! It really helps me get to sleep y'know!

Simon: I'm with you there!
