The left picture was taken 23aug97 from the top of the 3-land-border viewing-tower near Aachen, Germany. The sun here is shown as it re-appears underneath a longish cloud. In this shot it is about 15 minutes away from the horizon, but it actually disappeared in the air-pollution half-way down. The Sun doesn't set anymore! I was very shocked as I'm not used to see the Sun simply disappear in the smog. I have taken a whole series of photos on my Minox GT-E 35mm still-camera ... they are not developed yet. Watch this space. The right picture is the best I could find in a hurry to compare with. It was taken with the same camera.. a Casio QV10a. It shows a sunset in New Zealand. I don't have many electronic photos of these events, mainly because it is far to bright for my electronic camera. Thats evidently not a problem in the northern hemisphere!
the brown slime on the horizon in our daily air-pollution band (here in West-Germany) But also in Australia's Cities the problem is very bad indeed.
