Akibe was the only daughter of a poor Hebrew man, her mother died shortly after Akibe was born. Just after she turned 17 her father died and she was sent to a convent run by the blind Abbess Mariel. However, the day before she was due to take her Holy Vows, the convent was attacked by daemons, who raped and killed most of the Nuns before burning the building to the ground. Akibe and Mariel were the only ones who escaped. Mariel wanted Akibe to see some of the world before she committed herself to a life in a convent and so sent her to stay with a friend, Lady Katherine.

Since she has arrived Akibe has been stunned by Katherine's life and (rather large) family. Rock music (a favourite of Katherine and he daughter, Miraki) confuses her, swearing is new and she is amazed and Katherine and her daughters fight (women don't fight in her culture). Nonetheless, she remains the same and has struck up a friendship with Katherine's granddaughter, Tammy. She is now Lord Vians' wife she loves him with all her heart and would give her life if it meant he could live. She also has a son by Vian, named Michael.
