Comments: Ciarda grew up in a strict Catholic family in a village on the southern coast of Ireland, with her father who was a fisherman, step-mother and two younger sisters. She was told that her real mother had died giving birth to her. When she turned 16 she was engaged to the Bakers son. But a few weeks before the wedding she became very weak. The doctor didn't know what was wrong with her and it soon became apparant that she would die unless a cure could be found, the wedding was post-poned. One evening while the village held a special service in the church, she was visited by her real mother, who explained that she hadn't died giving birth to Ciarda. She was a succubus, and her husband had thrown her out of the house when he'd discovered this. Her mother said that for her to survive she needed to have sex, she had hoped that her succubus nature would not manifest until after the wedding, marital sex would then ensure her survival, but by post-poning the wedding the family had sealed her fate. For Ciarda to survive she would have to seduce someone. Her mother made sure that the bakers son came to visit her. They had sex, but Ciarda was not in full control of her powers and she stole his soul. Terrified by what she'd done, she fled.

For many years she has travelled the world, changing her name whenever necessary. One day she realised she'd forgotten her real name, and eventually decided to call herself Ciarda, Gaelic for dark. Now she's tired of travelling and having sex simply to survive. She believes her kind to be dying out as the only other succubus she has met is her mother, and she has not seen her since the night her heritage was revealed. She doesn't kill the men she sleeps with, her human side giving her a conscience which she cannot ignore. The only other man who's soul she has stolen was a succubus hunter, and that was for self-defense. She also kills men who think her innocent looks show weakness and try to rape her. She has no sympathy for them and does not regret killing them. She met another halfling, an incubus called Ash Durante, but she has not seen him for several months, and thinks he is dead. She now belongs to Rhy Scheinder.
