Dreams and Nightmares Part 2

Carlotta didn't remember what happened when she woke up. She tried to sit up, but she couldn't. She thought that she was tied up but she didn't feel anything. She was just too weak. Then she remembered what happened. She moaned and brought one hand to her face, trying to feel the damage. But what she felt frightened her more then any injury ever could. Her mask was gone. "Looking for this?" She turned her head around. Kyle was standing beside her and he held her mask in his hand. "Give it back," she said. "I could. But what use would it be? I've already seen your face Carlotta". She gasped. "You thought I wouldn't recognise you? How silly. We've been in class together for almost a year. Together with your boyfriend, what's his name…Terry?" Carlotta wanted to speak but her voice was gone. "Yes, I think you're going to regret this day very much Carlotta. You see, you and that Bat have been troubling many, many people. I think I can find more that enough people who would like to hear about this". He threw the mask in her lap. "I have a feeling I'll see you again soon" he said and then he left. Carlotta started crying uncontrollably. It was all her fault. She shouldn't have been so stupid as to go out tonight. She should have stayed home then none of this would have happened. It was only a matter of time before they found out that Terry was Batman and after that the link to Bruce would easily be made. She had no idea how long she'd lain there, crying. A few hours probably. But when the thought hit her, she also realised it might already be too late.

They didn't care who they killed. They had no need to know who Batman was. They knew who she was and that was probably enough. She quickly got up, too quickly because the world started turned before her eyes. She leaned against the wall and waited until she was able to stand on her own. Then she hurried back to house as fast as she could. Something was wrong. Carlotta could feel it in every bone in her body. That and the fact that the front gate was trashed. She stepped over it and slowly walked to the front door. She had her mask clenched in her left hand. She felt no need to put it back on. The front door was already open. Her heart was racing as she stepped inside. Everything was a mess. Furniture lay everywhere. Windows were broken and there was a cold wind rushing through the house. In the middle of the room she saw something that made her heart stop. Two bodies lay lifeless next to each other. She felt like her throat was being closed and she couldn't breath anymore. The mask slipped out of her hands and the world started turning again. She felt alone and afraid but still she stepped forward. As soon as she did she wished she hadn't done it. One of the bodies was Bruce. He had been terribly abused and it seemed like every bone in his body was broken. The other one was Terry. She had no idea how he got here and what he was doing but he had been here at the wrong time. Suddenly the world turned black before her eyes. The last thing she heard before she hit the ground was a familiar laugh.

Carlotta screamed and lunged forward, her head hitting something hard. "Ouch!" Terry yelled and his hand covered his nose. "Well at least she awake". She blinked her tears away. "Te…Terry?" "Yes it's me". She crawled up and clung to him, crying. She realised she was laying in the Batcave instead of in the house. Bruce was standing on the other side of her. "I was dreaming…" she muttered. "Yes" Bruce said. "I heard that you were having some troubles with your battle so I called Terry". "Lucky for you, I never leave without the Batsuit and Metropolis isn't far from here. So it didn't take me long to get here". "And he was just in time. You had lost the battle. Terry saved you and brought you here. You were unconscious for a little while". Terry noticed her pale colour and her trembling hands. "Are you all right Car?" "Yes. Better then ever".

The End.
