I was self-referential even then. In 1977 I made this seven-year-anniversary special of Slimy the Ant, who was a very popular comic character I drew while incarcerated at Tom Thumb Pre-School in 1970. I dearly wish that some of the early original issues of Slimy still survived.
The really interesting thing about this retrospective comic is that I, lacking a photocopier, actually re-drew the old comics for this edition. I mimicked the flaws and crudity of the original 1970 "Slimy the Dentist" right down to every detail, copying the original faithfully. I remember being quite pleased with this achievement, like a medieval monk making copies of manuscripts one at a time in his abbey's library.
Slimy was co-created by my first girlfriend in pre-school, Kim Cundiff.
