Are you Hungry for Food?

Ask yourself this question
before you eat – Am I hungry for food? Check to see if you are really physically
hungry. If you aren’t physically hungry (and if you have eaten 3 healthy meals
and a couple of small snacks then you probably aren’t hungry), then you are
hungry for some other kind of nourishment and you have gotten into a habit of
eating.
Food can temporarily comfort us
but it doesn’t satisfy our emotional or spiritual needs in the long run. Often
we feel worse when we overeat and certainly unfulfilled.
So what are you
hungry for?
You probably need some support, comfort or even cherishing and none of these comes in a box or a bag of food.
What really nourishes
you?
You need to listen to yourself to find out what you need. Do you require attention or love? Maybe you are tired and taking a nap or going to bed earlier will help.
Here’s a short list of some other healthy ways that you
could nourish yourself:
It can take time and patience to come up with a list of how you can nourish yourself if you have been overeating for years.
Keep asking yourself what do I really want? what do I really need? If I’m not hungry for food, what am I hungry for? What am I in need of that will nourish me as a person at all levels of my being? Keep asking and listening and the answers will come. Go ahead and make your own list of how you can nourish yourself and then just do it/act it out and you’ll see success!
