Tatting Projects

Well so far so good. Only thread I have around is the size 10 South Maid I was using for crochet,
but the tatting needles come in several sizes and one is made just for that size.
Some things turn out way bigger than they should, but it is great for the doilies.

My first project was this peach doily. Done in South Maid size 10 with a number 5 needle. Pattern by Eileen Stafford by the name of Blue Doily

This icilce was from a pattern in Workbasket Magazine. Worked in the Knit cro Sheen with a number 5 needle. Turned out a bit big measuring 5".

And then there is the snowflake measuring in at 6" from point to point, that will find it's way as an applique on a sweatshirt. It was also worked with the Knit cro Sheen and the number 5 needle.

The 7" tall and 5" wide Christmas tree worked with South Maid size 10 and the number 5 needle.

My first book mark. Shaded purple South Maid size 10, #5 needle. 6 3/4"

Captian's Wheel #5 needle, size 20 DMC Cebelia
Looked a whole lot better before I had to wash the kids
koolaid out of it. Next one will be from brown like real wood.

Guess you can tell by the thread I used for the Captian's Wheel I made it to the store.
I also got some size 30 which I haven't tried yet and some size 80, which I have decided is not, right at this time, my cup of tea.
So on to the next project.

with pattern and thread details

Left: Split Ring Practice
I did 2 rows of split rings joining the second row to the first as I worked them.
Center: Yard with no Pattern
I did a center row of white split rings and then did chains joining them to the split ring with 2+2 rings.

Inspired by the lanyard pattern by Barbara Hevener
Not really happy with my outside border, but will play with it some more on the next one.

I started with the white one (embrodery floss)on the third ring up from the tassel on the right side doing rings and chains. Mary gave me a few ideas for another bookmark I was working on to do the top and bottom so I tried one of them with this. I like the way it worked, but increased the count to 4-4 on the other one when I made it using size 10 thread. The rings are all 3ds seperated by or connected to picots and the side chains are all 2-2 and the four corner chains are 3-3 on the white one and 4-4 on the purple. Both were worked with the #5 needle.

This is one of six matching 4 1/2 doilies I did.
It started out as the first two rows of the Dresden Doily but just didn't lay out right so I used it for inspiration and changd it to suit my needs.

My center ring is 2-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-2
the next round is connected rings of 3-3+3-3, the + being joined to the center ring and the other two picots being joined ring to ring around. The chain is 2-2-2-2-2-2

The final ring has the hanging ring, 3+3-3-3 and the connected ring, 4-4+4-4. The join in the 4count ring is joined to the center picot of the previous row chain. The chain is the same as the second round chain.

Here is the picture of the squirrel on the bag and the designer!
This is my squirrel! Tat Days is just around the corner and this little guy is my first class. I made this one by working some of the parts backwards and the first one I made by the pattern is waiting for class in hopes that Mark can teach me how to finish his tail. I used Grey and Cream Rubi (approx. size 20) thread and the size smaller than a 5 needle. Maybe Mark can teach me how to use a picot guage too! I don't think he looks too bad, but think his tail would look better if the picots were all the same size.

Tat Days 2007 Zipper Pull

needle using Royal Metallic

This snowflake was inspired by Mimi's zipper pull and a snowflake found on Needle Tat Two By Roger aka Freedman
I covered the ring 4-4-4-4-4-4
I came out of the ring with a mock picot and did a chain of 2-2-2-2-2-2
Then I did a ring of 2-2-2-2 and another chain of 2-2-2-2-2-2
I came up thru the next picot on the covered ring and repeated the chain, ring chain.

Tatted Bracelets

These are made from my first, hopefully not last, original pattern.

Is this not just the neatest thing you have ever seen!
Well it may not be much to the more experienced tatter, but to somebody who has done squares all her life and then suddenly not be able to do them, well it really is a find. There is hope for more afghans in my future!

I found this pattern while exploring the OnLine Tatting class by Georgia Seitz. I believe the pattern is an original by Roger aka Freedman.

The pattern has all kinds of potential for tray work and afghans.
