December 23, 1995

I sat alone in a crowded bar
And fended off attentions
Of a drunk old man.
When I left the barroom
I felt I had escaped
A chilling fate with him.
Then I met you in the lobby
Of our grand old hotel,
And you were very charming.
I watched you all one evening
As you sang and played guitar
To entertain our coworkers.
You never even noticed me
Watch your every movement
Throughout the Christmas party.
Then you totally surprised me
When you asked if I would ever
Accept a date with you.
I couldn't form an answer,
So I wrote it in a letter,
Which got a good reaction.
I didn't plan to love you when
We met for drinks that night,
But my heart belongs to you.
Now we love in secret
To avoid the office gossip
Which has found us already.
I want to love you openly,
But I am being patient,
Waiting for it to subside.
Secretly or openly, I love you
After only a week together,
And I await the future.

For John Bacon with my love. May it only grow stronger and deeper as time passes and we find ourselves together in love.
