A Writer's Relief

The trials of the day are past;
Now I must my nerves relax.
My heart beat high,
My nerves all raw,
Today I competed for school honor.
A poet I am -
An artist in truth -
But what can I do
With an essay?
Essays are dull
And filled with the issues,
While my mind tends
To the spirit of things.
My honor and pride -
The school's reputation -
Rest now alone
In this moment in time
On my skill with an element
I can never call mine.

For Karin Gude - it was your day, too. Shine on!
