I sit by the window
On dark and frigid nights
Wishing that you, dear,
Were here at my side.
Alone with the streetlight
I sit at my vigil
Through all the long hours
Of silent aloneness.
Then my heart smiles
In warmest remembrance
That soon we will be
Together again.
A great, looming mountain
Divides us at nightfall,
But when daylight comes
It shrinks to a hill.
For you I wait silent,
Knowing that you know
That I love you so much,
Even though we're apart.
Sleep soundly and sweetly,
For I am yet wakeful -
Yearning for springtime,
Or at least a new morning.
For Andy.
