He is a teddy bear within
And a grizzly bear without,
He wears a hat like Smokey Bear,
And is answered by a shout.
He is sweet and kind at home
And with his second family stern.
His words can be compelling,
But his words can also burn.
He has five dozen daughters
Who look up to him each day,
But unlike other fathers,
He does not encourage play.
When one of his is sad or sick,
Or when she needs to cry,
He hears her story, tho' not her tears,
And tells her she has to try.
When one of his is losing faith,
Or feels frightened of her mind,
He sends her to professionals,
And bids her strength to find.
Sometimes he seems to be too strict
To lead so many girls,
But every wisdom word he speaks
Ranks high amidst the pearls.
He is a teddy bear within
And a grizzly bear without,
And however strict and stern he is,
He's great without a doubt.
