Sweeping the Cobblestones

Postcard

Every morning the soldiers were ordered to sweep clean the cobblestone walk in front of their quarters. As soon as possible after the men were finished, the French women swept all the dirt back in place in order to preserve their ancient stone pavement. Allen Fletcher, stationed there in the First World War, who spoke and understood French, was very useful to the American and French personnel at La Dagueniere.
