Lewden Greene Park,
New Castle, DE
Rt. 273 Westbound Side between The Villas Apts and DE Rt. 1

This Park located partially in New Castle and partially in Newark, provides a good location for Central New Castle Co. Runners. A paved trail starting at The Villas Apartments on Rt. 273 near Rt. 37 runs along the south perimeter of the park before turning north and eventually coming to a wooden pedestrian bridge that crosses under Delaware Rt. 1. Unfortunately, the bridge is in less then good shape, primary due to vandalism, and does not continue past Rt 1. Don't let that discourage you any from visiting the park. Bridge aside, Lewden Greene Park has an abundance of dirt trails, well suited for running. I managed myself to run for almost a half hour without really repeating to many trails. I would imagine it to be possible to run a few miles without become bored. Some of the trails follow closely to the Christina River, and some of the trails have an acceptable grade for an area so relatively flat. One downside of the park is a general lack of parking. Six cars would probably fill the parking area. In my experience, however, I have found usage to be generally light enough that this is not an issue.

This is a crude map of Lewden Green Park.
