TRISOMY 18 |
It can be very difficult to get good reliable information about T18 from your doctor, from the library or even on the internet. Most people have never heard of it and so little research is available that even medical professionals are stuck to offer advice. |
(Edwards Syndrome) |
Trisomy 18 is a chromosomal disorder, which means that someone affected has three copies of the 18th chromosome instead of the usual two. It affects both physical and mental development. It is the second most common disorder of its type, after Down's Syndrome, yet there is so little information available. |
There is so much unreliable information on the internet concerning Trisomy 18, so I would like to direct you towards a number of reliable, well researched websites, where you can find not only information about T18, but also support. |
Since having Connor I have become involved with a group of people who are creating our own website for families affected by a T18 diagnosis. We aim to provide reliable information for families and also a support community to help them through this difficult time in their lives. It is currently under construction but is open for any queries or requests at the moment. |
Other reliable sites providing information and support are: |
SOFT. Support organisation for families affected by Trisomy. US |
UK Chapter of above organisation. |
Online resources for families affected by trisomy including listserves for exchanging messages with other families and medical information. |
Message boards for families affected by Trisomy 18. Read other people stories or post a message of your own. |
