A Needy Man

She had the sweetest smile on her face as she asked, "Are you okay with this?"  I thought I was and was not about to say, "I'm not sure."  I had seen this night played out for many months, even many years in dreams still unfulfilled.  Being of an age that having a beautiful woman express that she finds you interesting is a wine beyond compare.

As we kissed, old memories started to surface from days long gone, and an ache of misspent youth began to build.  Feelings of wonder and daydreams of what had been.  She was truly a lady and fit to walk beside a man who would love and cherish her above all others.  She had come so far in spirit and wisdom.  Still she has a long walk ahead of her in a life both rich and full.

Sadly this evening I was to disappoint her (or maybe it was just me).  I came to her wounded in spirit and mind from a world that takes all it can and still demands another little piece of your soul each day.  Not far below the surface are the tears and near breakdowns that place their demands on your body and clamor for their time in your thoughts.  I came with tears, fears, and raw feelings, yet still she wanted and trusted me.  All I can do is thank her with all of my heart.

A needy man.
