Crossroads
© January 1998 by LadyWolfe

Before the crossroads a mother waits with open arms
The sun sets before the standing stones as spring begins
Her hair ablaze like phoenix's fire a single tear slips down
Life's fierce beat within her womb,
the first cry heard abruptly ends.
First born, so little, so weak
A mother gives her own
Strength enough to survive
Magick cast, a second chance risen.

Blue eyes, endless depths
So wise for one so young
He has taught her much, her son
Magick cast, a third chance given.
Before the crossroads a mother waits with open arms
The sun sets before the standing stones as winter begins
Her hair ablaze like phoenix's fire a single tear slips down
Life's fierce beat within her arms,
silently ends.
Her fair face drawn tight and cold
She wades waist deep into the sea
Ashes cupped easily between her hands
She releases her little bairn.

A child's laugh so pure and sweet
Echoes back over the crashing surf
She lifts her face to the ghostly moon
And collapses in strong loving arms.
Before the crossroads a mother waits with open arms
The sun sets before the standing stones as harvest begins
Her hair ablaze like phoenix's fire a single tear slips down
Life's fierce beat within her womb,
the first cries help to mend.
Second born, so strong, so bittersweet
A mother takes from her
Strength enough to survive
Magick cast, a chance to heal.

A year has past the hour near
She finds the strength to love
Her pain not diminished
Magick cast, she starts to heal.
Before the crossroads two women wait with open arms
The sun sets before the standing stones a future summer
Their hair ablaze like phoenix's fire two tears slip down
Life's fierce beat, heard once more,
the daughter now the mother.
