Crowders, W.Va.

Crowders is what is called a "Karst Window". A Karst window is a cave where the ceiling of a room or passagewy has fallen in , exposing it to the elements, and allowing us a "window" to look through, or in cavers cases, climb through. :o)

Here is a view of the remaining passageway off the Big room, taken from above (ground Level).

As you can see from these pictures some of the formations are still intact. However, due to being exposed to the elements, they now possess a stone- like structure.

Remember- Formations take tens of thousands of years to form. Never touch or harm them if it can be avoided.

A note to our viewers- if someone ever says lights are optional- don't belive them!

We were told that by our "fearless leader" on this trip. So I was the only one who brought a flashlight. Well, Sean & I decided to explore the passageway off the room, and wouldn't you know it, the Flashlight Died! It's no fun to get 2 people out with 1 Bic lighter! For once I was thankful I smoke!
Remember- always carry a backup light!!!!
