I have to admit, before 2002 I didn't get the whole fanfiction thing. It never occurred to me that I might want to read it, much less write my own.

Then a friend filled me in on 'Buffy, the Vampire Slayer'. I'd watched the show religiously the first three seasons, but then Buffy got a dorky boyfriend and the coolest character on the show was neutered, so I drifted away.

"Then you don't know what's going on," my friend said. "About Buffy and Spike."

"I believe 'boinking' is the correct term."

I became re-addicted to the show. That meant scouring the 'Net for information on my obsession, and that in turn led to the discovery of some amazing stories written about the BtVS characters. Really amazing. Inspirational. Finally I gave in and started writing my own.
