REMIXING WITH COOL EDIT 96
A QUICK BASIC TUTORIAL (other editors are probably similar)
Basically, in this case, you're just chopping the song in small pieces
then putting them back together in a different order.
Here I'm using Britney Spears' "Oops!...I Did it Again", any song could be used.
The entire song as visible in Cool Edit.
Zoomed IN so that about eight seconds of the song is now visible.
SELECT (highlight) an area and press the LOOP button to loop play it.
Use File|Save Selection ... to save it as a sample. sample 1
COPY the selection
Open a File|New Instance and PASTE into the new empty window.
Use File|Save As... to save your new remix file.
Now scroll over a few seconds farther into the song (where the music
has started)
and select a new section. Save Selection... and COPY it. sample

In your remix window click in the far right side of the black area of
the window
(which moves the insertion point) then PASTE.
Do this a second time with the same sample.
Scroll farther over into the song and get another sample and repeat
the process.

PASTE into your remix window and SAVE example remix
