Dnyaneshwar Maharaj is the turning point in the history of Maharashtra. He was a disciple of his elder brother, Nivruttinath. He also had a younger brother Sopandev and their youngest sister was Muktabai. Their parents committed some mistakes while living the married life. Their father became a sanyasi and then came back to their home. The priest community of that era took this very seriously. All trouble started when their father wished to perform Upanayan Ceremony of his sons. No priest was willing to perform the ceremony. The helpless parents wandered here and there alongwith their children. Ultimately the samaj gave the order on the matter. They asked parents to end their lives for having committed the blunder. The parents ended their lives. Imagine the state of a mother who leaves behind children less than 7 years of age and commits suicide. As this was not enough, the priests of their village ( Alandi ) declined to perform the ceremony and asked them to go to Paithan. The priest community of Paithan made a laughing stock of these four fellows. One of the priest asked Dyandev that if the God is everywhere then whether He is also in a buffalo. Dnyandev said yes. Then he hit a stone to the buffalo and asked Dnyandev whether he was affected. Dnyandev showed the mark of hit on his body. Then came the climax. The priest said whether the baffalo can recite Vedas. Dnyandev said yes and he asked the baffalo to recite the Vedas. The baffalo recited the Vedas. Later Dnyandev scaled new hieghts of wisdom and popularity. At the age of sixteen he composed ' Bhavartha Deepika ' which is a commentary on Shrimad Bhagwadgita. At the age of 21 he took his samadhi and departed from this world. |
