Three Rivers Heritage Trail, Pittsburgh

While visiting in Pittsburgh we explored the city trails, called The Three Rivers Heritage Trail. We bicycled on the Panther Hollow Trail, the Eliza Furnace Trail, the South Side Trail, and the North Shore Trail which make up the trail system. Since we are not from Pittsburgh we had to look up internet information to find out about the trails. There are gaps in the trails where they are not completed and we had to explore to find connections between trails. Maybe this will be useful for people who are not from Pittsburgh.

Here is a summary of where to get information about trails

The Friends of the Riverfront Page has general information about the Three rivers Heritage Trails and a link to download a map or go directly to the map page to download or print the map.

This map is small. We got a larger map at the bike and roller blade rental place along the Eliza Furnace Trail which was much better since it is necessary to use street connections between trails and around incomplete sections. At the westerrn end of the Eliza Furnace Trail there is a large map of the trails which helped. It may be possible to obtain a larger map by writing to:
Friends of the Riverfront
33 Terminal Way
Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Here is a newspaper article describing a ride on two of the trails, Eliza Furnace and North Side.

Here are some pictures and descriptions of the routes.
