What a week!!

You know God must love you a bunch when you get to see five Hal shows in one week. I was fortunate to see Hal in New Hampshire, Albany, New York City and Maryland. All shows were great and unique at the same time.

A sight like that and hearing Hal’s new song “This Side of Heaven” – you just have to wonder! This song was so beautiful – a pedal steel guitar would accompany this very well!

In Albany there was one show with one intermission – so it seemed like two shows in one. The Egg is a great place for a show – never a bad seat and the sound is fantastic due to the unique shape. Kenny, Keith, Nico Leophonte (new drummer from France) and Hal sure were having fun on stage. He even did a little Beethoven or was it a Bach piece hitting his cheeks. It was good to see Melody again and meet Linda and Cathy – who were also in New Hampshire. Too bad the show in New Jersey was a washout (or should we say a blackout!)

New York City was very special to me since I was able to bring my parents (79 and 86 of age) to finally hear him. They have heard me go on and on about him for the past nine years and now they understand. They enjoyed him very much. They even got a chance to talk with Hal for a bit and get a picture taken. I was able to gather quite a crowd of friends and co-workers to see Hal who have never seen him before – even my doctor went!!! – How’s that for recruiting!!! It was a good crowd for a Monday night so hopefully Hal will be returning. Also for this show Stephen Bruton and Tish Hinojosa opened for him separately.

Then the two shows in Maryland – was not planning on this but since we were celebrating a ten year anniversary we decided what the Hal! In addition to the regular band – Hal had a local percussionist with him – Starz Vanderlockett. It was a pleasure to hear some songs that I haven’t heard him do in awhile:

Some Place Far Away

Drive On

The Way She Loves Me

 ------

Some new songs:

This Side of Heaven

It Was a Very Good Year – by Frank Sinatra

A rather different song that the band  put together while hanging in their hotel room one night
entitled something like - They’ll be no (Fighting or Something??) Tonight.

- You really had to be there to get the full effect of that one!

Other songs Hal played:

Past the Point of Rescue   I Know Where Love Lives
Sure Love Travelin' Tear Drop Blues
Awaiting Redemption   I Miss My Mary
Eyes of the Maker  Millionaire’s Wife
Five O’Clock World  Stay Forever
Unforgiven   Roll Back the Stone
Dear Annalee Small Town Saturday Night
Hearts are Gonna Roll  Satisfied Mind
Long Way Down Trail of Tears
Too Many Memories Continental Farewell – crowd just loves that one!

So now it is back to reality but thanks for the ride!
