Harold Edward Fickling, 71, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. G.A. Roach, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery.

Mr. Fickling was born Sept. 27, 1935, to John and Viola Fickling in Newcastle, where he was raised from childhood. He married Barbara Ann George in 1957. They had three children. He married Linda Manning in 1976.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1953, leaving the Oklahoma National Guard in 1979. During his service, he received the Oklahoma Commendation Medal for conspicuous performance of military duty. Harold worked for Rowen Drilling Co. from 1956 to 1966 in the oil fields while still an Oklahoma National Guard reservist.

He had also worked as superintendent of parks and recreation in Weatherford, Okla., for more than 13 years. He later retired from the VA Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., as a medical-supply technician.

He was a perpetual member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, 32nd degree Mason, in Weatherford, as well as a member of the Khiva Shriners.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; a brother, Joe; and a sister, Janet.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Thomas of Burleson; a brother, Jim Fickling of El Paso; a daughter, Annies Lovett of Amarillo; two sons, Calvin "Dean" Fickling and wife Bertha and Evan Fickling, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Sassy.
