The Dickens Fellowship

Founded 1902

In 1923 Doughy Street was threatened with demolition, but was saved by three members of the Dickens Fellowship, who raised a mortgage and bought the freehold. The membership of the fellowship raised funds and put together a collection to exhibit in it. In 1925 the Dickens House Museum was opened under the direction of an independent trust, established by the fellowship.

Founded in 1902, the Dickens fellowship is a society for Dickens lovers, with branches throughout the world. Its headquarters is at the Dickens House, and its journal, The Dickensian, first issued in 1905, is published from the House. Throughout its history, the Dickens fellowship has been the chief supporter of the Dickens House.
