Fight Wars Not (Just) War

While everyone's focus in the media and in the anti-war 'movement' has been the war in Iraq, much of the world has not been living in peace in recent days.  Economic plunder of resources by 'western' based multinational companies goes hand in hand with military genocide in forgotten wars in the Congo and West Papua.

The root causes of war are the same the world over, poverty, an unequal distribution of resources and the greed of western-based corporate interests.  While there are ethnic divisions many African wars have been fuelled by the greed of corporations seeking copper, uranium, diamonds, etc and arms companies desperate for markets.

According to the ALISC, African Liberation Support Campaign (a London based organisation), two-thirds of the continent of Africa is at war.  The BBC have been silent about a proxy war that is taking place between 2 sections of western imperialism, France & Belgium on one hand and US/UK on the other over Congo's mineral wealth, with one side backing the rebels, the other the government.  African leaders and their western backed elites have colluded with arms and mineral companies to make profits while the ordinary African people get killed and impoverished.  There are no big arms factories in Africa.  French, UK, US companies, exports the weapons of mass destruction. 4 million have died in Congo since 1998.

There is fighting in the east of the Congo over access to Coltan mines. Coltan is used in the manufacture of mobile phones.

It's the same story with the Ivory Coast, diamonds and cocoa, with the Western Sahara, oil, the list goes... on and on!
