Spooky Critical Mass 31st Oct 03

After a prolonged summer break Belfast critical mass hit the streets for a rattly ride through the gothic streets of Belfast. Around 20 cyclists braved the dark, the rain & the Belfast ghoulies. Costumes included Ninja's, giant spiders, a plumber (!), cyclist barbie & quite a few costumes I didn't quite get a handle on but caught the eye. The cycle went on for a while & there was an impromptu storming of a $Hell garage forecourt on Great Victoria St. Motorist  on the most part were fairly chilled out. The police however weren't. One police motorcyclist kept asking us to pull over & threatened arrest if we didn't cycle in single file. He also threatened spot fines for those without lights or reflectors (so it's a good tip for cycling in the winter anyway so we were prepared to concede that one!) In the end there were no arrests or fines & those of us who stuck out the rain made it back to city hall to watch a boy band & fireworks. Cool.
