Our offense needs to step it up. Our five goals a game is pretty decent - but I think we're getting so many more chances to score than our opponents that we need to make them pay for that. In our last game, I should've scored a hat-trick ... we need to capitalize more often.
Our defense is playing well, but there are two things they can do to be even better. One, is to be more decisive; when the opponent is rushing in, make your decision right away - are you going to give him room and try to block his shot / pass, or are you going to aggresively take the man and attempt to create a turnover. This decisiveness will make it very hard for the offense to play against you. The second thing is to make sure the opposing guys aren't able to sneak behind you. Don't worry about point men all the time - they're the forwards' problem. Make sure if there is a man behind you, you get back there and take his stick.
Our communication is looking pretty good, but we need to talk with Russ more so he can get our rushes going. He is capable of doing so much back there, but we need to help him out.
The bottom line is we just need to keep working as hard as we are now, or harder. This is the playoffs, boys. The time is now to step up our play, one game at a time, all the way to the final match on Wednesday the 15th. The way I look at it, this is our season to win. In the Fall, we may be slightly rebuilding with Geoff gone back to the U of A, and Russ back to U of L. An opportunity has presented itself, and we should take full advantage of it. Work hard and have fun!!
If we play against the Smootchie Bootchies, or any other team Chun Seto decides to play for (ie. Quebeque), I think we should shadow him. It was Chris' idea, and we both commented it would be a very tough task. Because Stef and I are capable of being the fastest guys on the team, one of us should probably do it. In fact, Chun takes such long shifts, that it'll probably take both of us. Are you up for that, Stef?
It has been suggested to us, by the Red Army, that the best way to play against Chun is to watch his chest instead of the ball. If you look at the ball, he'll zip around you in no time. By watching his chest, you can see where he is going, and step in front of him without his fakes fooling you.
To this point, we are undefeated when playing back to back games in the same week. (We defeated United Nations and No More Hurtin' in one week, and our last week of the regular season, of course.) We have the potential to play three games next week, but it's nothing we can't handle.
