Episode 1.09

The Storage Unit

Conner’s eyes were filled with an extreme sadness as his mind processed everything that Maggie was saying. “You really want to throw away what it is we have?” he asked her.

“We’re not throwing it away Conner, we’re just putting it on pause. If you and I are truly meant to be then you and I will be.” Maggie said as she stood against the wall, no longer wanting to discuss the situation.

“But Mags, I—I” Conner started to say before he pulled her closer to his body and kissed her with the passion and desire of a thousand romantic icons.

Maggie’s hands ran up Conner’s arms and shoulders and into his thick dark hair.

Hallow Hills—Main House

Doug walked into the way too formal living room of his home. He really wished Adel could relax and not be so uptight about everything. This room was definitely an Adel creation. He walked around it, studying the artifacts that she had collected, the pictures that she choose to display. This was the first time he ever really looked around and he began to realize that most of the pictures where of Chad, and only a few were of Kip.

It was always common knowledge that Chad was slightly preferred since he didn’t screw up as much as Kip. Yet Doug understood there was more to Adel’s desire to keep Chad as the number one. It all had to do with Charlene, Adel’s sister.

Doug shook his head as he sat down on the stiff sofa, and tried to think of a way to save his sons from the same path their mother had created for herself.

Hallow Hills—The Pool House

Kip had just fallen asleep in Chad’s bedroom, when there was a knock on the front door. Chad walked through the small house to the door and opened it seeing his mother. He silently hoped that she had no idea Kip was there, because he knew his brother was in no capacity to handle her.

“Hello Mother.” He said as he opened the door.

Chad, have you given any thought,” she started as she walked into the room, “to taking over management of the mall?”

Chad rolled his eyes, “Mother, I already told you my answer. It hasn’t changed, its no.”

Adel pouted, “Why Chad, what is so wrong with me wanting you to be part of my business?”

Chad rubbed the back of his neck and clenched his teeth together as he thought of what to say. “Mother, you don’t even know me. Why would you want me in your business life when I haven’t even been in your family life for five years?”

Chad,” she started, “You’re my son. You might not have been in town, but you’ll always be apart of my life.”

Chad closed his eyes and nodded, “Even if I have a homosexual relationship?”

Pam’s Apartment

Siobhan stood outside and took a deep breath, before she knocked on the door gently. A few moments later Pam opened the door timidly and looked out.

“Hi Siobhan.” She said softly as she hid most of her body behind the door.

Siobhan gave Pam a small smile, “Could I talk to you for a few minutes Pam?”

Pam’s face grew sadder then it was already, “This is about last night isn’t it?”

Siobhan nodded and Pam opened the door further to let her in.

Pam was wearing a pair of track pants and a Pinõn Hallow College sweatshirt, she had no make-up on, and her hair was pulled back into a pony tail. She closed the door behind Siobhan and they sat down on the couch.

“Pam, what do you remember about last night?” Siobhan asked her.

Pam looked down at her hands, studying them as though she had never really looked at them before as she started to speak. “I went over to Hallow Hills to see Kip Davis, but Adel Davis told me he wasn’t there so I came home. A few minutes later Kip showed up here with flowers. Those over there.” She said pointing towards an arrangement. “Well then he and I went to the park, we were sitting on a bench, looking up at the stars.” Her eyes were begging to form tears as she recalled her traumatic evening. “Its amazing how many stars you can see here in Pinõn Hallow. In Denver you can’t see nearly as many, you know, the light pollution. Kip suggested Ice Cream cones. I offered to go with him, but he’d insisted he get them himself. So I was there alone, watching the night sky.”

Siobhan listened intently to the story, trying to think of a way to comfort Pam. This was definitely one of the harder rape cases she had not only dealt with but heard of. “It’s alright Pam, we can take however long you want to with this.”

The Storage Unit

Maggie’s hands left Conner’s hair as they moved down to his chest. Her left hand stopped though as it felt something in his shirt pocket. Curiosity getting the best of her she reached her long fingers in and removed the key to the storage unit. She pulled back from Conner and looked at him, disappointment covering her face.

“Conner, you had a key this whole time?” She asked him angrily.

He sighed and nodded, “Yeah I had a key, I told you I wanted to spend time with you.”

Tears were forming in her eyes as she looked down at the key now in her hand, “Conner ya know what. This can’t continue. You are married and frankly, I do give a damn.” She looked back at him for a moment before going and unlocking the door. “Good-Bye Conner.” She then walked out leaving the door open for him to leave.

The Pool House

Adel rolled her eyes at Chad, “That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard from you Chad!”

Chad shook his head and went over to the small bar area hidden in the corner and took out a bottle of tequila and then looked at her, “Yeah, well I was married to a man Mother.”

Adel gasped, and her mouth was left gaped wide open.

Chad opened the bottle and drank straight from it, “Oh and Mom, I was in a gay cult as well!”

Adel stared at her son for a long moment before sitting up straight, “Chad stop this non-sense.”

“Mother, its true.” He said as he brought the bottle to his lips again.

“Chadwick!” She said as she rushed over to him and pulled the bottle out of his hands, “No drinking! Have I not told you that no one in this family can handle alcohol? Charlene died because of this stuff.” She said in a tantrum before throwing the bottle at the wall.

“Mother, just get the hell out of here now!” Chad yelled at her, the anger boiling inside of him. “You’ve never accepted me and you definitely have never accepted Kip either. Now get the hell out of here.”

“Chadwick Avery Davis, I am your mother and you will not treat me this way!” Adel yelled back at him.

“Damn you mother!” he said picking up a shot glass and throwing it at the wall. “You don’t know me, and you don’t care about who I really am!”

Pam’s Apartment

“Siobhan, I have to finish.” Pam said as she looked back at her hands, “I was watching the stars and then I felt someone from behind me grab me and pull me into the bushes. I remember trying to scream and fight back, and then I woke up in the ER where Sam and Kip were waiting for me.”

Siobhan looked up, “Who’s Sam?”

Apartment in Nashville

The apartment is dark, the moonlight from outside is shining in from the big picture window looking out over Nashville. The door opens, breaking the darkness with the light from the hall before the lights are turned on. A young man, probably twenty-six walked in dressed in a dark suit. He tossed his keys into a paper bowl on the coffee table and sorrowfully sank down on his leather couch.

He ran his hands through his ashy brown hair before removing his stylish glasses. He then picked up the cordless phone that sat in front of him and dialed a familiar, but long distance number. “Damn machine.” He muttered when he heard the recorded message, “Siobhan, its Kevin, um I’m coming to Pinõn Hallow. I need to get out of Nashville after what happened. I’ll come see you as soon as I get to town. I really need you Sis.” He said into the phone as he tried not to cry. “I’m leaving in the morning so I’ll see you tomorrow night. Love you. Bye.”

Pinõn Peaks

Maggie slowly walked up the stairs to her third floor apartment. Her eyes were red and sore from crying. She had too pull over several times on the way home from work to survive. She had to turn the radio off because it seemed like every station was playing love songs, and worst of all she heard their song. She really didn’t want anymore reminders of Conner tonight, her heart couldn’t take it. She took her keys out of her purse and stood in front of her door as tears took over again.

“Maggie, what’s wrong?” asked Siobhan as she walked down the hall and saw her friend distraught.

“Conner, I can’t be with him and he doesn’t get it.” Maggie said as she worked to hold back her tears.

Siobhan hugged her and then said, “Come on, lets go have some ice cream.”

“Alright.” Maggie said as they went into Siobhan’s apartment, just in time to hear the end of Kevin’s message. “Who’s Kevin?”

“My baby brother, but I’ll worry about him tomorrow. Now is the time to cheer you up with the cure all.” Siobhan said as she sat Maggie down on the couch, before going to her freezer and taking out a carton of mint-chocolate chip ice cream. She then grabbed two spoons, “I promise this will at least make you feel better for now.”

“Thanks Siobhan.” Maggie said as she started to dry her eyes.
