In 1996, I joined the Army. I learned what hard work, endurance, and patience were from my experiences in the Military Police Corps. I was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky for nearly three years, and I continue to live near the post to this day.
I worked For the State of Tennessee with the Department of Correction for 2 1/2 years before I decided to expand my horizons and got to work for the Davidson County Sheriff's Office. I worked there for 4 years, and found out that money is good, but respect and teamwork is worth its weight in gold.
For those of you thinking about a job in corrections, I have a bit of advice: Every day in Corrections is a new adventure as you and your fellow officers embark on a new dawn behind the chain-link and razor wire walls. I enjoyed my job, and I thank the Lord that He gave me the awesome responsibility of helping my community.
Not everyone has the patience to work as a Correctional Officer, but then again, not everyone can become a mortician or a garbage man either. These are just a few careers that have hard-working people; working their butts off so that our community will have one less thing to worry about.
I decided to expand my horizons and take a job in the field of hotel security and have been chosen to work at the elite Opryland Resort & Hotel in Nashville, TN. The work was mundane, but I had a good time learning about customer service and service to my fellow man.
Now that I am back home in Texas, I am returning to college to finish up my degree in English. I will be attending Palo Alto College in the fall, and when I graduate from there, I plan to attend Our Lady of the Lake University for my batchelor's degree and for my master's. Hopefully in about 3 years, I will be teaching literature in a high school somewhere. Things have certainly come full-circle.
More to come, as I set out on this new journey!
Thank you for visiting!!
