When a counting number is divided by a counting number and the quotient(answer) is a counting number with no remainders, then the first number is divisible by the second number.
Example:125 / 5 = 25 There is no remainder, so 125 is divisible by 5.
There is a trick to figure out if numbers are divisible without needing to actually divide! Pretty neat, huh?
Here are the Divisibility Rules to follow:
All numbers are divisible by 1.
All numbers with a 0,2,4,6,or 8 in the ones place are divisible by 2.
Any whole number with 0 in the ones place is divisible by 10.
Any whole number with a 0 or 5 in the ones place is divisible by 5.
If the sum of the digits in the whole number is divisible by 3, then the number is divisible by 3.
If the sum of the digits in the whole number is divisible by 9, then the number is divisible by 9.
If a whole number is divisible by both 2 and 3, it is also divisible by 6.
