T.N.G. SIGNS OF THE TIMES - September 1995

Greetings from Russell's Remnant:

One of Russell's impatient young chelas was consistently asking Russell why the Hierarchy didn't use him consciously in the Work. The chela felt that he had prepared himself to some degree and that should have merited at least a small job with the Hierarchy. The chela had heard how badly the Teachers needed workers. The jobs were there. The Teachers were always looking for new workers.

The chela was greatly puzzled. He compared the situation to an American baseball game. The Hierarchy's team was in a game but did not have nine players on the field. They were playing with, say, only seven or eight players. The chela knew that even though he was not the quality of the regular players the Hierarchy had on the field, he knew he was at least good enough to play (or just stand) in left or right field. He knew he could at least stand against the fence and retrieve any ball that rolled to the fence. He then could at least pick the ball up and throw it to or even hand it to one of the regular players. In this small way, he could be of some small assistance to the team. It would be better than sitting on the bench and never getting in the game.

The chela made his case time and again to Russell. Russell would just smile and make no comment. Finally after several years of the chela asking why the Hierarchy wasn't using him, Russell made this statement, "The reason the Hierarchy doesn't use you, like you would like, is because they do not know how you will react in every situation."

Now the student had something to go on. Now he had food for thought. They do not use me because "they do not know how I will react in every situation." "There must be some way I can prove myself," thought the student. After many hours of reflection, he came to the Teacher with this idea - "Suppose the Teachers had 1,000,000 tests for me. These tests coming over many lifetimes. And suppose that I had faced all 1,000,000 tests with the Teachers having recorded my reactions and responses to those million tests, then if They gave me test #1 again, they would then be able to know how I would react, right?" "Wrong!" said Russell. "They still cannot use you for they do not know that you will react the same way you did the first time you faced test #1."

Totally exasperated, the Chela cried out, "How can I prove myself to Them?" Then Russell made the statement, "The Teachers will use you when they know that you will never react in any situation."

Straight is the way, narrow is the gate. Many are called, but few are chosen. Follow the middle path, the narrow edge of the blade of the sword. Our task is to take life one step at a time, not reacting, but being the observer - the learner. We are not here to change the world but to come through the world. It's all just a test. God's will will be done, not ours. The sooner we learn that lesson, the sooner we can move on to a greater "ring pass not."

Note: <The Teachers will use you when they know that "you will never react in any situation" - (on the straight, narrow, middle Path.)> This sentence was included in the August newsletter and it was felt that some explanation was needed about that statement.

TNG Quiz: Question #1 144,000 is the number that represents ____________________.

Question #2 T or F There are many lives of such negligible nature that they warrant no comment.

***

Quiz Answer #1 - personality (Some believe that only 144,000 will be saved. That is true. All personalities will be saved. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. God's will will be done.)

Quiz Answer #2 - True (We are only interested in the good which you do. The experience of failure and achievements in my Ashram are seen in terms of 1,000 year cycles. Unless one life has an outstanding significance, in all probability, it is quite unknown to me. The petty selfishness, vanities and irritations that disturb you are not noted by members of the Hierarchy.)
