Greetings from Russell's Remnant:
Russell Whitesell advised us to rejoice at funerals and be sad at births. Returning children face immediate pain and suffering, and then a life on the planet of pain really begins.
Some of D.K.'s comments about children: The problem of the children (up to 16 years of age) of the world is, without exception, the most urgent confronting humanity today. POH 32
The problem of the children, greater than all other problems, underlies the necessity for world rebuilding. The children have prior claim upon all men. EOH 385
Today's average child (for the first five or six years):
1) Is the victim of his parents' ignorance, selfishness, or lack of interest.
2) Is frequently kept quiet and out of the way because his parents are too busy with their own affairs - busy with nonessential matters, compared to giving their child a right start.
3) Is left to his own resources or those of some ignorant nursemaid at a stage when a destructive little animal should be developed into a constructive little citizen.
4) Is dragged hither and thither according to his parent's whims.
5) Is sent to school with a sense of relief on their part, in order to get him occupied and out of the way.
6) And at school is frequently under the care of some young, ignorant though well-meaning person.
By this time the mischief is done and the form of his later educational processes (from eleven onward) is of small moment. It is obvious that the majority of children get off to a wrong start and begin life basically handicapped. ENA 74+
Children are still largely Atlantean in their consciousness - a form of recapitulation. ENA 40
Where the parents are purely physical and emotional, so will be the nature of the child. EP1 287
Where we raise the sacral energy to the throat center, then we shall produce children of our skill and minds. EP1 289
Families should produce quality and intelligence in offspring, not large families. The need of an increasing birthrate is erroneous. ENA 133+
The majority of children born now have come into being accidentally or are not wanted. Some few are desired, but even in these cases, that desire is usually based on reasons of heredity, property to be passed on, and old name to be perpetuated or an unfilled ambition to be satisfied. EP1 297
Train the child from the earliest breath. A careful record of the exact moment of birth should be kept for astrological reasons. The horoscope and the ray chart will be subjected to careful analysis every seven years. ENA 71
At age seven the Ego "takes hold"; and again at adolescence. TCF 366
Determine which of the seven rays controls the infant's mind. ENA 25
Children should be studied in the following directions:
Medically - with special attention to the endocrine system.
Psychologically - in accord with knowledge of the seven ray types.
Vocationally - where gifts and capacities can be expressed.
Astrologically - to determine life tendencies and the peculiar problem of the soul.
Spiritually - noting where the age of the soul is. ENA 10
Crime will be stamped out when a child's environment is bettered. EA 237
The children of the congested cities and the anemic slum dwellers are unable to tap pranic currents. TCF 106
Most children's natures are warped by the rush and hurry of those with whom they are forced to associate. The impatience on the part of those upon whom they are so dependent sows in them the seeds of irritation. ENA 76
It is only our economic material emphasis and pressure which force the young to work before they are mature. ENA 49
The natural idealism of the child has been suffocated by the weight of the materialism of the world's educational machine, by the selfish bias of the world's business, plus the emphasis always laid upon the necessity of making money. ENA 102
Education to date has been largely memory training. This attitude must stop. The child has to assimilate the facts that the race believes to be true. The child learns how men have conquered territory and absorbed lands. ENA 3
The first thing that must be done is to train the child in the correct use of the discriminating faculty. ENA 22
Education should be the process whereby youth is taught to reason from cause to effect. ENA 82
In teaching children up to fourteen years of age, it is necessary to bear in mind that they are emotionally focussed. They need to feel. They must not be expected to rationalize before that time, even if they show evidence of the power to do so. After age fourteen, a mental response should be drawn out or effort made to evoke it. ENA 13+
There is a widespread demand of the youth of the world today (worst in the democratic countries) for a good time (usually had at the expense of others), irresponsibility and a refusal to face the real values of life. ENA 105
The development of the sense of fantasy and the training of children to make choices will be two of the governing ideals of the new education. The power of choice (why, wherefore, and to what end) will do much for the race especially at adolescence. EP2 429
The two major ideas that should be taught to the children are: the value of the individual and the fact of the one humanity. ENA 46
Young people should be found and trained in the principles. It is the youth who recognize these truths. DN2 86
Through your children is the lesson learnt which can release you for initiation. Disciples hold their children to them; and this, being counter to the law of nature, works out disastrously. It is the height of selfishness. Realize that to hold, one must detach; and to keep, one must release. Such is the law. EP2 105
Some of Morya's comments about children: Children must not only be taught gymnastics and rhythm, but also the meaning of economy of movement. Avoid fidgety and unjustifiable nervous movement. Point out the harm of these movements to the subtle body. FW2 131
Children are not cruel until they see the first cruel action. FW2 104
Let children get used to the work of grownups. FW2 55
