Unfortunately Arrt Jurriaanse in his fine book, Bridges, listed some differences between the lower and higher psychic powers. He also indicated that some psychics are of the higher variety. This is true of a very, very few people on the planet; but, unfortunately, most of the lower astral psychics immediately declare that they are in the high psychic category and not the lower. This has caused much glamour for disciples with psychic powers. As a general rule, any psychic power is a test for the disciple - to see if they have the discrimination to cease using it. Again, unfortunately, most see it as some great spiritual gift to be used to help humanity. This is rarely the case.

Russell Whitesell cautioned his disciples to never pay for psychic services or pay money for initiations or consciousness raising. He also said no drug or mechanical device can give you a spiritual experience. Russell was not a psychic and would quickly point that out to questioners. He taught his disciples to develop their mental abilities. He was fond of quoting the Bible, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus. Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God." Phil. 2:5-6 He often said the he would charge for his services when God started charging for sunlight and air.

D.K. made the following statements about high psychism:

Master Hilarion is connected to all psychics of the higher order and assists in developing their power for the good of the group.

Higher psychism gives a man a range of contacts and a knowledge which is infallible, free from error, and which admits him to "the freedom of the heavens."

A few - a very few - are utilizing the triple construction of energy within their own aura of awareness and their area of influence in order to build, construct and utilize the bridge which links the various aspects of the mental plane. These three aspects they must employ simultaneously, and then later supersede them in such a manner that personality and ego disappear and only the Monad and its form upon the physical plane remain.

A higher psychic must develop: Intuitional response to ideas; sensitiveness to Hierarchical impression on the mind of the disciple; quick response to real need - heart knowledge - not solar plexus reaction; right observation of reality on the soul plane. (this leads to right mental perception and to freedom from illusion and glamour); correct manipulation of force - therefore an understanding of the types and qualities of force; a true comprehension of the time element - a most difficult power to master; and mental polarization. Individual desire must be merged in the group life and the group good.

A high psychic must be mentally polarized and rightly oriented towards service.

A high psychic uses the Word - the lower psychics use words. Until you are polarized in the soul, you are playing with fire.

When the interpretation and the use of the experience is at fault - you have lower psychism.

Lower psychics are not easily reached and warned as they are ever determined that their clairvoyant powers are indicative of the advance type of high spiritual unfoldment - they function behind smug self-satisfaction.

Higher psychic’s powers are: Spiritual perception with infallible knowledge; intuition with unerring judgment; and the power to reveal the past and future. These are the prerogative of the divine soul.

Higher psychics can prove to scientists the latent forces of man.

Lower psychic power is a hindrance to true spiritual development. Mystics regard these powers as indications of divine grace. Distinction between the higher and the lower powers will be of real value.

So, yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as a high psychism; but to be a high psychic you must be among the few, the very few who:

Must have connections with Master H.,

Have infallible knowledge,

Have your personality and ego disappear and the Monad remain physically,

Be sensitive to Hierarchical impression,

Be free from illusion and glamour,

Use the Word, not words,

Have intuition with unerring judgment,

And have the power to reveal the past and the future.

It is good to remember that astral or psychic powers were the goal in Atlantis. We are no longer in that epoch. Raja yoga or mental powers are the goal in this epoch. The mental yoga includes the astral yoga, but not vice versa. The Black Lodge works almost entirely on the astral plane. For the initiate, the astral plane does not exist.

In The Light Of The Soul it states: The higher psychic is in touch with Christ consciousness - with the soul in all the superhuman kingdoms.

The psychic powers, higher and lower, are hindrances to the highest spiritual state and must be left behind. This is a hard lesson for the aspirant to grasp.
