T.N.G. SIGNS OF THE TIMES - N.M. October 9, 1999 (#75)

Greetings from Russell's Remnant:

Several years ago, Russell Whitesell was lecturing to scientists from Louisiana State University and Exxon Oil Company in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They met in the home of a scientist who had several patents and was considered very erudite. This scientist believed that a true spiritual experience could be induced by the means of a machine. He had convinced many people in the area that he could help them raise their consciousness with artificial means. He heard of Russell Whitesell through other American scientists who sang Russ’s praises, and asked Russell to lecture there.

Russell favored lecturing to scientists for he was commissioned by his Teacher to "be on the lookout for open-minded scientists." The reason being that it will be open-minded scientists who bring the return of the Christ, not the religionists on the planet. The religionists say that if you do not believe what they believe, you will not be saved. They say this with a closed mind and most often under great illusion. They stay fixed in their cul-de-sac situation. Scientists, on the other hand, offer a premise. Other scientists then try to disprove the new premise. If the new theory stands, it is accepted until a better premise is presented years, decades, or centuries later. At that point the open-minded scientists accept the new position and move onward. The closed-minded scientists act just like the fixed religionists and remain behind in consciousness. With this in mind, Russell would advise scientists who he felt could be helped by his experience.

While lecturing in Baton Rouge, Russell tried to explain to those seeking enlightenment through a machine that if the machine does the work, the machine gets the benefit – and no enlightenment is forthcoming. Russell explained that advancement in consciousness comes from service, discipline, and meditation. This did not set well with those who had fixed minds. As the old Zen saying goes, "Don’t come to the teacher with a full tea-cup." You cannot teach someone something they think they already know.

On several occasions Russell saw a group of medical doctors (not associated with LSU or Exxon) who attended the lectures. They were completely belligerent to Russell’s lectures, but they did not voice any objection. After a couple of weeks, Russell decided it was time to pop the medical doctors’ bubble. Russell intuitively knew everything about this group and why they were present. He rather startled this group by addressing the head doctor.

"Sir, I know who you and your friends are. I know that you and your associates think that I do not know what I am talking about. I do not give a damn whether you believe me or not. That is up to you and your soul. I am singularly unimpressed with your attitude, but since you are here seeking help - I will help you. The reason you and your doctors are here is that you are the medical staff at the mental institution in Pineville, LA. For years you have been using drugs and electric shock to help your patients. This has not helped one bit. You know it but will not stop administering these treatments at your hospital. Now sir, as he looked into the eyes of the head doctor, your son has been admitted to your own hospital; and you know that nothing you have been doing there will help him. You are here today grasping at straws for ideas that will help you heal your son. That’s it isn’t it sir!"

The associate doctors looked shocked that anyone would talk to their boss that way, but the boss did not respond at first. He just looked at Russell and cried. The man admitted that Russ was right. His son had just recently been admitted to Pineville. The doctor knew that the methods used at that institution (as well as most other mental institutions) were generally useless. They were basically used to subdue the patients so the attendants could handle them better. The doctor was desperate so he attended the lectures of this old esoteric teacher - he was lucky this night. Russell consoled him and told him some things that could help his son. Russell also told the Pineville staff that removing meat from the hospital diet would help most of the patients. Some might even get well enough to leave the institution. (Alcoholics should never eat meat. Their desire body can be greatly aided by not having to deal with the blood of animals.) Russell also suggested that the hospital put the patients on kidney dialysis machines. This would help cleanse the blood to some degree. Consciousness is in the blood. If the blood is cleansed, the patient might get some temporary relief from the desires that they have to deal with. These two suggestions would help the patients to some degree and would help the staff not have to deal with some of the horrors they had had to deal with in the past. The doctors thanked Russell and went away better doctors.

Russell then explained that the mental patient must learn to control their desires. The dialysis machines would only give them some temporary relief. Each patient must then learn to meditate to kill out desire, discipline their diets and body, and learn to serve their fellowman wherever they find themselves – even in a mental institution.
