T.N.G. SIGNS OF THE TIMES - N.M. May 19, 2004 4:52 GMT  (#132)

Greetings from Russell's Remnant:                                                                                  www.oocities.org/dkone_us

In the dualistic planet upon which we live, understanding the Yin and Yang principles of the Taoist is very important.  The following information comes from the Taoist teachings.  Much of this comes from Master Mantak Chia, a Taoist teacher who has made great strides to bring these oriental ideas to the occidental world.

            YIN

Yin is expressed as emotional, passive, receptive, empty, cerebral, night, earth, interior, inertia, cold, water, dark, rest, and the moon.

Yin usually contracts and flows downward and inward.

Yin is hidden deep within the interior body.  Intelligence is Yin in composition.

Yin is water.  Yin is receptive.  Yin is female essence.

The five yin organs - the lungs, heart, liver, spleen, and kidneys are considered the most important ones.  A sixth yin organ, the pericardium, is not technically an organ - it is the membrane surrounding the heart.

            YANG

Yang is expressed as creative, full, active, day, motion, hot, exterior, fire, heaven, and the sun.

Yang expands and flows upward and outward.

Yang is superficial; it is what you see.  It is the expression of intelligence.

Yang is the radiant.  Yang is fire.  Yang is male essence.

The yang organs - the large intestines, small intestines, gallbladder, stomach, and bladder are all mostly gastrointestinal in function.  The sixth yang organ, called the “triple warmer” has no anatomical equivalent in conventional medicine.

***

Distinguish between yin and yang in the body.  The left leg is yang when the weight is concentrated there, and the right leg is yin, etc.  One must empty the upper portion above the waist and rend that portion yin, empty and yielding; the legs are yang.  When the upper part of the body is empty you cannot be pushed over nor punched; you become like a blade of grass.  You cannot upset its center.  This principle applies emotionally and psychologically as well.  Aggression or hostility of any kind cannot harm you when you are empty and yielding.
