The Bubblegum Toothpaste Incident

Megan was busily putting the finishing touches on her surprise for her Daddy
as she heard the key turning in the kitchen door. Jumping up from the table,
she ran across the kitchen and held up her artwork.
"Daddy- I makeded you somefin. Seeeeeee," she yelled excitedly as Kyle
made his way from the laundry room to the kitchen. She held up the picture
she had finger-painted for him. It was cold outside, and once again she was
recovering from tonsillitis and ear infections. He knelt down to admire the
painting.
"That is you an me an Mommy- an we is all goin to the fair. Like we did
last month." She explained as she held it up for him.
"It's beautiful, baby. I love it." He said, kissing the top of her
head. "Now how about you go wash those hands so Daddy can hug you without
getting all blue and red?"
Megan giggled. Her hands were covered with fingerpaints. She blew him
a kiss and handed him the picture before she headed for the bathroom to clean
up.
Kyle went over to talk to the sitter while Megan cleaned up. She told
him that it had been a quiet day and for a change the usually mischievous
Meggie had been quite well behaved. He smiled. It was a rare day when she
hadn't gotten into one thing or another. She wasn't a bad child, just very
curious and almost totally fearless.
Megan meanwhile had climbed up on her little yellow stool and was
washing her hands. She happily worked up a lather on her hands and watched
as the white suds turned purple with the paint. Giggling, she lathered up
some more. She washed and washed until her hands were clean but kept on
washing. She liked to watch the bubbles. She just wished they were as
colorful as they had been when her hands were covered with paint.
Just then she glanced up and caught sight of her Sesame Street
toothpaste sitting on the counter. It was the bubble gum flavor and was a
bright pink color. She scrunched her face up and thought. That would probably
be really pretty mixed in with the soap....
Reaching for the toothpaste, she decided to just squeeze in a
little...She put more soap in the palm of her hand and squeezed in some
toothpaste. She then mixed it all together. She giggled at the pink bubbles.
Boy, these were pretty, she thought. And if this small amount was
pretty, just imagine what a big bunch of bubbles would look
like......Grabbing the toothpaste tube in one hand and the soap in the other,
she squirted them both into the sink. The bubbles were pink and huge and
filled the small sink almost immediately. She giggled at first but as the
bubbles grew bigger and bigger she became worried. They were rapidly taking
over the sink.
Just then, there was a knock on the bathroom door. "Meggie, you OK in
there, baby?" Daddy called through the door. The door was just closed, not
locked, but her parents believed in knocking before entering a room where
someone else was. Unless of course, there was an emergency. If Daddy saw the
bubbles, there would be an emergency....she thought. Her bottom would be in
an emergency situation.
Acting quickly, she grabbed a towel off the towel rack and threw it in
the sink to soak up the bubbles. Then she grabbed the faucet to turn the
water off. Only, in her haste she pushed the water on all the way. With the
towel and the toothpaste blocking the drain, the sink began filling up with
water and bubbles.
"Megan???" He called again.
"I's fine Daddy. Be out inna minute." She called back. She tried to
wipe up the bubbles and noticed the water coming up to the top of the sink.
Oh no!!!!
"Megan, what is going on in there?" Daddy said as he pushed the door
open. The look of amazement on his face would have been incredibly funny, had
she not had the sinking feeling that comes with the knowledge that a spanking
is imminent. Suddenly, Daddy seemed to fill up the bathroom. He grabbed the
faucet and twisted it to off in warp speed. Then he surveyed the soapy mess.
There were pink bubbles and toothpaste everywhere. Water all over the
counter. And to top it all off, his favorite bath towel was in the sink
coated with gooey bubbles.
"Megan Elise, would you like to tell me WHAT is going on in here?"
He asked. He was trying very hard to remain calm. Even the sight of his
bubble-coated 4-year-old didn't make him smile.
"Well....ummmmm.....I was washin my hands." She answered simply, her
voice suddenly very tiny. She felt even tinier.
"You used a bottle of hand soap and half a tube of toothpaste to wash
your hands?" Daddy asked, his face disbelieving.
"Well, ....ummm..." she started, searching desperately for a reason
for the mess," The bubbles were so pretty." Her voice trailed off. There
wasn't going to be any excuse that he would accept.
"So-you were basically just making a mess?" He asked quietly.
Megan's eyes started to water and her lip was quivering. She knew
she was in BIG trouble. And after such a good day, too.
Daddy pulled open the door to the linen closet and grabbed a
clothes basket. He tossed the soaked towel into the basket and then handed
Megan a wash rag.
"You can help wipe up the counter while I clean out the sink." He
said, as he began to clear away the bubbles and the toothpaste gunk. Megan
wiped up the water quietly and tossed the rag into the basket. Daddy finished
scrubbing out the sink and put the basket up. Then he came back into the
bathroom. He put down the seat to the toilet and called her over to him.
"I is sorry, Daddy. I didn't mean to make a mess. I was jus washin
my hands and the bubbles was so pretty and I wanted to make more pretty
bubbles and the toothpaste made em pink." She rambled. "I didn't mean to be
bad. I didn't, Daddy."
"You aren't bad, baby. What you did was wrong though. You may not
have meant to make such a huge mess but you know better than to play with
things in the bathroom. And you know that toothpaste is for brushing teeth
and not for making pink bubbles. Don't you?"
"Uh-huh." Megan nodded sadly.
"I thought so. You know better than to do things like that. And I
think maybe you need a reminder about what happens to little girls who don't
obey the rules." He said as he pulled her sweatpants and panties down to her
ankles.
"NOoooooooo," She whined as he hauled her up and over his lap.
"Megan, don't make this any worse by fighting with me. This is
because you didn't obey the rules and arguing is disobeying again. So I
suggest you stop now." Daddy ordered. Megan took his advice and shut her
eyes.
Smack!! Smack!! "You know Smack!! better than to make Whack!! a
mess like Swatt!! that. I had better Whack!! not catch Smack!! you doing
that Swatt! again. Do you Smack!! Smack!! understand Whack!! me?"
"Yessss," she sobbed.
"Good Smack!! I had better not Whack!! have to have Swatt!! this
discussion Smack!! with you Whack!! again." He said as he finished. He rubbed
her back as she cried and hiccuped over his lap. When she had calmed down, he
pulled her bottoms up and hugged her to him.
"I love you baby. But you know the rules and it is my job to
make sure that you learn to obey them. I only do that because I love you and
I want you to grow up to be know how to behave correctly." He rocked her and
rubbed her back as she calmed down.
"I y-yuvs you t-too D-daddy. I is gonna be-have." She said as
she calmed down.
"I know you will, baby. Now why don't you come help me hang up
that wonderful picture you made me so Mommy can see it when she gets home?
I'm not sure where to put it. But I bet you can find a good place." He smiled
down at her.
She grinned up at him. "Yeah I know just the place." She said
as she hopped up and grabbed his hand. "Come onnnnn." And they went on with
their evening. The bubble gum toothpaste incident over and done with, all
that was left was a Daddy and his little angel, and that was all that
mattered.
