Dragonfly

Mika was sent to Seiryuu Weyr once it was discovered that she wasn’t quite stupid after all. The dragons were supposed to be kind, and the Weyrwoman took pity on the young girl who saw the world through eyes that were too innocent. Unable to allow her to travel by herself, Dustan went with her out of protection, and out of something else as well.

“Dustan, look!” they arrived just when the second clutch Weyrlings were about to ascend into the air for their first flight. Her eyes held a rapturous look as she watched the dusky colored weyrlings with a look of both envy and awe. Dustan, smiling slightly for he had grown up in a Weyr, watching with a mix of fascination for the colors were so… unusual.

“Aye Mika.” He was strong, and it was obvious by the way that he carried her in his arms that she was slightly weaker- but only be a little bit. Cradled in his arms, she looked up, her eyes widening as she smiled even as G*bar watched them with a look of amusement. Walking along to where the Search riders for Seiryuu were promised to meet them, he only stopped to enjoy the view of this Weyr before he continued on, keeping an eye on the new candidates as he did so.

“Anyone here?” his voice carried in the distance and a rider popped his head out of the sands with a grin on his eyes, and motioned for them to come in.

“New candidates, huh?” the rider smiled as he did so, and as Mika and Dustan entered, both nodded rather shyly. Mika, because she was always shy around strangers and Dustan because he didn’t quite know how to handle the situation. What was both common though was the friendly expression on the rider’s face as he introduced himself as a Searchrider for Seiryuu Weyr. “I heard you were coming in, but didn’t expect to see you so soon.” He chuckled. “Congratulations, you can consider yourselves the first candidates of Oroth’s clutch.” He looked over proudly at where the white dragoness was watching them with a gleam in her eyes even as he ran his fingers through his hair, looking for what ever it was that he was supposed to write their names on.

“Mika.” Mika said promptly, grinning that shy grin as she did so and extended a hand for a shake. “My name is Mika.”

“Dustan.” The quiet rumble in his voice caused Mika to giggle, for from her position against his chest she could feel the vibrations across his shoulders.

“Mika, Dustan.” He said, acknowledging them and writing their names in illegible handwriting so that someone else can come organize everything. “Welcome to Seiryuu Weyr.”
