The town of York in north-central England was another of our base camps. I didn't take a lot of photos on the ride from Keswick - after getting out of the Yorkshire Dales National Park (first three photos in the table) I accidentally put diesel fuel in the Kawa and the combination of bike problems (last photo in first table) and weather meant no more photos of road scenes. The first two show the Yorkshire moors. The third shows another of the disinfecting stations outside the village of Reeth. The last photo shows my bike AFTER the diesel was replaced with real gas. Ran like this for 200 miles. I think I set back British opinion about motorcycles maybe 50 years with all the blue smoke I pumped out, especially in slow-moving town traffic.

When we arrived in the old city of York, we found that our hotel was outside one gate leading into the old city. The next table shows some photos of York, beginning with a map of the old city. The next few photos show the Monk Bar gate of the old city and some facts about it. The portcullis - a barrier that drops from the top to close the gate, still works after several centuries. The next few photos show York's Minster or cathedral, which also dates back to the 1400s. I think the architecture of this old church is just amazing, that's why I took so many photos. The last photo in the table was right outside the gate. Had to ask around. This isn't a side dish, it's a Brit version of Pepto-Bismol.

The old city of York is still surrounded by the medieval curtain wall. This next table shows some views from and of the wall. The first is a side view of Monk Bar gateway. The next two were taken on the wall and the last one shows the wall from our hotel.

When we left York, we spent the last night on the road in the city of Peterborough. I was running low on photos - all I got were some photos of the town's church. The first shows the entry to the church grounds. The next two show the church. The building on the right is a college.
