This photo was taken in 1985 or 86, using a Canon AE-1 Program. The only lighting used was the natural lighting coming in form the window on the right hand side of the photograph. Although, I did not record the shutter speed and aperature, I know that a very very slow shutter speed was used with a wide aperature. (Probably one second or longer at f4. The room was quite dark). Many people ask me how I got her to pose like this. Actually, she really is sleeping. We had just arrived at my sister-in-law's home after a three hour trip. She fell asleep in the car and we carried her in and placed her in the chair. |

Here is a good example of a photograph in which the subject is over exposed, but the result is good. Taken around 1991, I don't recall whether I intentionally over exposed this shot or simply braketed, but I like how it turned out. The white areas of the face and hear provide a sharp contrast to the darker background and the dark shirt. It draws your attention to her face and gives her an innocent, almost angelic look. Shot with an AE-1Program and a 35-70mm Canon Zoom lens. |

This photo was taken in September, 2000 using natural light and my Canon AE-1Program and Canon 35-70mm Zoom. I used shutter speed priority mode at 1/60sec and the camera selected an fstop of f8. When shooting outdoor shots, I will usually look for a shaded area so that I can eliminate harsh shadows and the squinting of the subject's eyes that you would find in direct sunlight. The photo was taken in the evening about a half hour to an hour before sunset. This time of day tends to provide a (warmer) lighting than what is found at midday. |
