Here is an interesting question: Can great photographs be taken with really cheap cameras? I think the answer is "yes." This photograph was taken using a Kodak Advantix point and shoot camera. No, the resulting photo is not as sharp as what you would get with a Hasselblad medium format camera, or even a good Nikon 35mm. But given the price of the camera (you can now get them for under fifty bucks at Wal Mart), these cameras take very good photographs. The cameras are limited....mine has only one focal length (no zoom), no controls for shutter speed, aperature, or manual ISO setting. There is no self timer, no hot shoe, no TTL metering, or any of the other basic functions you would find on almost any decent 35mm SLR. But for the price and ease of use, this is really a great camera. It fits easily in my pocket, has a built in flash, and can be ready in an instant without focusing or worrying about exposure settings. |
